Episode 25 - When You Build a Beautiful Life on Someone Else's Land
Episode 25 - In this episode, I explore what happens when you build a beautiful life on values that were never fully yours — inherited expectations, absorbed definitions of success, old loyalties, approval, security, usefulness, or the need to be impressive.
We look at how high achievers can spend years building something real, admirable, and successful while still feeling strangely displaced inside it. The work may be real. The sacrifice may be real. The life may function. But if the foundation is built on borrowed values, it may still not feel like home. This episode explores why we often keep renovating the “house” instead of questioning the “land,” how certain values can come to own too much of our lives, and why midlife can become the moment when we finally ask whether the ground beneath what we built is still truly ours.
I also share reflection questions and a practical Land Survey exercise to help you identify one area of your life that may be built on an inherited value, understand how that value has served you and what it now costs you, and name the value that feels more honest to build from now.
